World Gold Council which is an internatioal organisation formed and funded by the leading Gold mining companies from around the world has come forward to support the idea of establishing a Jewellery Development Institute in Dr. Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women. The objective of the Institute is to provide the latest technical know how and to upgrade the skill levels of artisans and help them to get the right placement in the jewellery indusry. The following Nine courses have been identified.
1. Goldsmithing
2. Stone setting
3. Casting Technology
4. Appraiser Course
5. Polishing and Cleaning
6. Crash Course on Jewellery Technology
7. Chemical Refining and Assaying Technology
8. Project Management
9. Production Management
Faculty with vast experience have been appointed. Rs.43.5 Lakh~ has been donated by World Gold Council towards the purchase of machinery, Consumables, Furniture &
fixture to start the course at Dr. Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women.
The Jewellery Technology Courses, the first of its kind in south India will be on technical, management and marketing areas and the duration of the courses vary from 12 months to 2 weeks depending upon the course content. The Government has given a sanction to start the
course under the Canada India Institutional Cooperation Project vide
G.O.M.s. No. 872 Education.
